Recent Milton graduate Matt Childs ’24 is having an electric first season on the Brown football team, capturing Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors two weeks in a row. Childs, a freshman tailback for the Bears, was an all-NEPSAC selection and two-time Independent School League All-Star in his high school career. He was a triple threat for Milton, elevating the Mustangs’ offensive game as a running back and receiver; he also played defensive back, and was a key special teams player, Milton Head Coach Mike Mason says. “Matt Childs is one of the best athletes that I have ever had the privilege of coaching. He has unsurpassed athleticism, vision on the field, and flat-out speed,” Mason says. “Matt was also a team leader who practiced as hard as he played, which was a great example to the younger kids on the team. I’m not the least bit surprised by his immediate impact on the football program at Brown, and will be watching his success over the next four years.”

Milton Athletic Director Lamar Reddicks says, “I think everyone here at Milton is so proud of him. We all knew that Matt had this type of potential as an athlete so I am not shocked at all by his success.”

Childs is not the only former Mustang playing for Brown. Bears’ quarterback Jake Willcox graduated from Milton in 2020. Willcox was instrumental in the Ivy League opener last month, as Brown beat Harvard for the first time since 2010.
