Facilities Services Maintenance Technician

Summary of Position: 

The Maintenance Technician performs general repairs for physical plant and building operations for all Academy properties.  Performs maintenance and mechanical inspection on equipment utilizing results-oriented strategies to ensure continuing operation.  Uses experience and technical skills with preventive maintenance and system operations to determine service requirements.  The individual in this position must work collaboratively with the Facilities Services team and have a customer service orientation to working with students, faculty, and staff.  Excellent verbal and written skills with the ability to prioritize multiple projects and tasks in a fast-paced work environment and understanding issues of confidentiality are critical to the role.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  1. Performs general repairs of physical plant buildings and grounds, such as sheetrock, plastering, painting, carpentry, glass, and screen repairs.
  2. Assists in the preventative maintenance and repairs of buildings both commercial and residential.  Including but not limited to general repairs, belt adjustments, oiling, greasing and cleaning of equipment or replacement of various types of mechanical and electrical equipment.
  3.  Advises owner/representative of preventive maintenance inspections performed and corrective actions to be taken.  Suggests additional service/renovation requirements.
  4. Performs preventative maintenance on various mechanical and electrical equipment.
  5. Performs re-lamping both indoor and outdoor lighting fixtures.
  6. Conducts daily/weekly tours of entire campus, including mechanical spaces, tenant/public areas, and roofs and building grounds to ensure that there are no outstanding deficiencies.
  7. Respond to service calls/tenant request for HVACC, plumbing, lighting, escorts, general carpentry & painting duties, key making, picture hanging safely move furniture and equipment as needed, and provide support or assistance when needed.
  8. Communicate with the owner, owner’s representative, or supervisor on the work performed and present status of the work orders.
  9. Stays abreast of changes (safety and code) in their respective field of expertise through seminars and other educational avenues.
  10. Provides information for input to client work order tracking system to initiate work orders for unscheduled jobs, develop materials lists for ordering, and possibly providing technical support for projects.
  11. Responds to emergency situations and traces, troubleshoots and repairs problems; and will carry a department radio for to ensure rapid response.
  12. Conducts general housekeeping to mechanical/electrical rooms including sweeping, mopping and painting.
  13. Ability to use power equipment, such as table saws and power tools for projects as necessary.
  14. Ability to use computers, laptops, and/or tablets, as essential tools.
  15. Other responsibilities reviewed and assigned during the evaluation period.

Qualifications:

A high school or vocational school diploma is required.  Certification or licensed in maintenance trade is preferred.  A valid driver’s license is required.  Three years of related experience and/or training is required.  Five years of related experience or training is preferred.  Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with occasional lifting and/or moving up to 100 pounds.
