Position Summary:
Milton Academy’s Upper School is seeking a varsity Basketball Girls’ head coach. As a member of the Independent School League (ISL) and the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC), we aim to provide our players with a coach who will assist them in reaching their full potential both on and off the court while also overseeing the entire girls’ basketball program at Milton Academy.
Overview of Responsibilities:
- Oversee the Girls’ Basketball program and comply with the institution, NEPSAC, and ISL protocols.
- Supervise assistant coaches.
- Build trust and foster a supportive environment for all our athletes. Serve as a mentor and guide to female athletes.
- Follow all safety practices and policies outlined in the school’s student and coaches handbook, including the hazing and bullying policies.
- Recruit and retain prospective students and maintain accurate records regarding student academic progress and attendance.
- Design and implement practice plans for the team and supervise and mentor the coaching staff.
- Write and submit comments detailing the strength, progress, and growth development of each player.
- Guide and support the junior varsity program to ensure they have a competitive roster.
- Knowledge and assistance in the placement of students who have a desire to play Basketball at the collegiate level.
- Possess effective coaching techniques and skills.
- Instruct students on the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of the sport.
- Model sports-like behavior and maintain appropriate conduct towards students, officials, and spectators.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, parents, and students.
- Drive school vans to transport the team to games and other student activities.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Minimum 3 years of basketball coaching experience at high school or college level with a proven success at either level
- Demonstrated knowledge of the sport and leading/organizing a team.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
