Summary of Position:
Milton Academy is seeking a full-time learning specialist for an opening in the Academic Skills Center in the Upper School beginning September 2021. This will be a one-year interim position, with the possible opportunity to become an ongoing role.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 years experience working with students with documented learning profiles, preferably in a school setting. A bachelor’s degree in special education or a related field is required and a master’s degree is preferred. Teacher certification is not required. We welcome candidates with an eagerness to collaborate with other faculty members to support their ability to deliver effective and differentiated classroom instruction.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Provide skill and strategy instruction in one-to-one meetings using research-based practices
- Interpret and summarize diagnostic evaluations; use them to develop and deliver individualized student learning guides
- Maintain confidential student records and submit accommodation applications to the College Board and ACT
- Coordinate assessment administration for students with accommodations
- Establish contact with advisors, teachers, families and outside staff to foster a team approach to student support
- Communicate closely with the Counseling Center team in consultation and collaboration
- Meet multiple times a week with the Director of Academic Support and Associate Director of Academic support to discuss plans, progress, and concerns regarding individual students, as well as plan school initiatives
- Share theory, research, and resources to support best instructional practices
- Commit to being a learner and participant in addressing issues of social justice, diversity, equity, and anti-bias education in our curriculum and in our community; engage in active reflection and goal-setting
- Attend all faculty meetings and training sessions
- Oversee specific student leadership programs (such as TutorMilton)
- Serve as an advisor for 5-8 students
