About our School:
Milton Academy is an independent college preparatory K–12 school, boarding and day in grades 9–12, located eight miles south of Boston.
Milton Academy cultivates in our students a passion for learning and a respect for others. Milton students grow by developing their own identities, learning from and listening to the lived experiences of others, and living and working among peers whose differences they accept with respect and care.
In our ongoing work to create the anti-racist environment at Milton—free from bias, injustice, and bigotry—that our values demand, we encourage each other to explore our own histories and identities, be open to learning from others, seek to understand the world around us with a critical lens, and strive to practice ways of interacting with one another that ensures all students and adults feel safe, supported, and able to express all aspects of their identities without judgment or hate.
In our dynamic community, we honor that Milton students challenge each other to build a foundation upon which to leave Milton and partner with their future communities to help create a more just world and in those spaces that are dissonant to our values, to have the courage to speak up and live by our motto, “Dare to be true.”
The Boarding School Residency Program — Math
Milton Academy seeks a teaching fellow with a concentration in math to participate in the Boarding Schools Residency Program, starting on campus in late August 2021 and at the University of Pennslyvania in June 2021. Interested candidates should bring a strong commitment to working in a diverse community of students in grades 9-12.
In collaboration with the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education and a consortium of eight other boarding schools, Milton Academy is actively developing early career educators. Over two years, Teaching Fellows will immerse themselves in the daily life of Milton Academy as well as program course work sessions at Penn’s Graduate School of Education and on Milton’s campus. Designated Milton Academy faculty mentors will work alongside each teaching fellow, serving as a sounding board and collaborative partner in professional learning. The program engages teaching fellows in both the theory and practice of boarding school teaching, including the role of identity in adolescent learning and a critical examination of our schools’ histories.
The Boarding School Teaching Residency program is designed for energetic, recent college graduates excited about the opportunity to teach at a boarding school while earning a master’s degree. To learn more about the Boarding School Teaching Residency program, please visit https://istr.gse.upenn.edu/bstr. Questions regarding Teaching Fellow opportunities at Milton Academy may be directed to Indu Singh, Dean of Teaching and Learning at Indu_Singh@milton.edu. Applications should be submitted through Milton’s website and should include an undergraduate transcript.
Milton Academy welcomes candidates who would add to the racial, cultural and gender balance of the School community. Milton Academy is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
