About our School:
Milton Academy, established in 1798, is an independent coeducational national
boarding and day school, serving 1,000 students in grades K-12, on a 125-acre
campus eight miles south of Boston.
Milton Academy cultivates in its students a passion for learning and an abiding
respect for others. Milton students grow by developing their own identities,
learning from and listening to the lived experiences of others, and living and
working among peers whose differences they accept with respect and care. In
our ongoing work to create an anti-racist school culture free from bias, injustice,
and bigotry, we encourage each other to explore our own histories, learn from
others, seek to understand the world around us with a critical lens, and strive to
practice ways of interacting with one another that ensure all students and adults
feel safe, supported, and able to express all aspects of their identities without
judgment or hate.
Summary of Position:

teacher to begin in September 2021. We seek candidates who demonstrate

values and pedagogy. The department teaches literature through close reading.
In encountering and discussing literature, students develop cultural wisdom,
empathy, and an eye towards truth and beauty on the page and in our world. The
department’s approach to writing cultivates the control of and appreciation for
language as a means of authentic self-expression.
The teacher will teach four classes focused on literature and writing, typically at
two or more grade levels, and engage with students beyond the classroom.
Three years of classroom experience at the secondary or collegiate level and an
advanced degree is preferred. Teacher certification is not required.
All teachers advise 6-8 students. Teachers are also expected to advise a student
activity or coach a team or intramural sport, in addition to other responsibilities.
Faculty members residing on campus typically live and work in a dormitory and
all teachers living on campus have responsibilities in the residential program.
Milton Academy encourages professional growth and provides support and
opportunities for educators to evolve their craft.
